About Us

Black & Magazine is a premier digital Black lifestyle magazine based in San Diego, CA.  The name of this publication is a reminder to individuals that we are more than just “Black.”  We are Black & education, Black & informed, and we are Blacks that bring so much more to the table than just our skin.  Created by Chida Rebecca, a second-generation Black newspaper publisher, Black & Magazine launched in 2018 highlighting local and national Black lifestyle as it relates to Millennials and the Gen X demographics. Topics include entrepreneurship, spirituality, economics, politics, social issues, fashion, beauty, family matters, as well as arts and entertainment. To date, the Black & Magazine website draws approximately 2k readers a month and is growing.  In just two short years, we have successfully created a mark within the Black community through substantive storytelling, partnership building, and impactful dialogue. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook!

My name is Marshaun Olaniyan, and these days I am a certified Life & Relationship Strategist, a Keynote Speaker, and the author of “Twenty Ways to Create an Awesome Love Story”. I’m also happily married to the man of my dreams.
But I wasn’t always tuned into what makes relationships work. After my divorce, when I was getting back into dating, I couldn’t make anything last – all my relationships crumbled one after the other.
I went through education and I read all of the major relationship books – I started my journey towards certification. And I learned who I was as a woman and started showing up as my authentic self.

Hey family! A little bit about me, I obtained my Associate’s in Black Studies from San Diego Mesa College and am now majoring in Africana studies with an emphasis on education at SDSU. I’m a mama to a 1-year-old young king who helps edit all my papers ( he’s very meticulous). Besides articles, I also write poetry and music, and occasionally a composition piece for 1 of my 5 instruments. As a certified yoga teacher and a self-proclaimed natural hair enthusiast, I have a YouTube channel dedicated to both! I love to serve my community in ways that cultivate unity & progression and I’m grateful that Black& has given me another way of doing just that. spreading love & information ♡
